It has an *extremely* sweet and robust flavor that can actually be too much from some, but we love it. The flavor falls in the classic group and is comparable to Honey Kiss, but with even more intensity and sweetness. The flesh is yellow, fiberless, and contains a polyembryonic seed. It can sometimes develop some internal breakdown/jelly seed but we don’t consider this a fatal problem for the cultivar.
It was released in 2016 and we planted several in 2017 for evaluation as a potential late-season alternative to Keitt.
The trees are moderately vigorous-to-very vigorous in growth habit, with vertical, open canopy. They have been impressive, consistent producers for us. Though we suspect Cotton Candy is at least moderately prone to mango bacterial black spot, it may not be as susceptible as its parent the Keitt. Its season more mirrors that of Kent, a July to August timeframe for maturity.
